The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRF) is dedicated to funding research to find a cure for juvenile diabetes, which strikes children suddenly, makes them insulin dependent for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. JDRF’s sole function is to support research to find a cure for juvenile diabetes soon. In a typical year, more than 80 percent of JDRF’s expenditures directly support research and research-related education. The Capitol Chapter of JDRF, serving the entire Washington, D.C. metropolitan area was founded more than thirty years ago. Currently ranked in the top ten chapters for fundraising, the Chapter has consistently been a leader within JDRF through active volunteer participation, substantial fundraising successes and a wide range of community educational and informational services. Believing that knowledge and understanding are key tools in the fight against diabetes, our Chapter annually participates in numerous health fairs. The members of the Capitol Chapter are regular participants in JDRF’s lobbying activities before the United States Congress. The Capitol Chapter is fortunate to have many volunteers who plan, organize and conduct various fundraising projects. Our calendar of events includes: the Walk to Cure Diabetes, “A Night of Hope” black-tie gala, golf tournaments, Holiday Gift Wrap at local shopping malls, JDRF Real Estate Games, congressional events and embassy receptions. Through these activities and from contributions received during the year, the Capitol Chapter plans to raise over $5.6 million in the 2006 - 2007 fiscal year. |
